Certified End Of Life Doula, B.A., MS Ed.

Certified End Of Life Doula, B.A., MS Ed., Advanced Certification in Guidance & Counseling, a Reiki Master, & a Student of New Thought & Twelve Step Theory & Practice for more than 37 Years.

My experience with these serious life experiences allows me to support the terminal patient and, just as importantly, help family and friends understand the process of "leaving the body." This understanding alleviates the pain and suffering above and beyond what we normally experience. As we learn to understand the process, we observe this period as "normal." The process of "leaving the body" is a very sacred, spiritual experience, if managed in a compassionate loving way. The Doulagiver assists the family in making it such an experience for all involved.

"I live my life from the inside out."
- Martin Schwimmer, Life Coach
Description:

The mission of the group is to help members provide emotional support who are facing terminal illnesses or the loss of a loved one. I create a safe and supportive environment for individuals to discuss their feelings, share their experiences, and receive comfort and support from others who are facing similar challenges. The focus of the group is to reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness, improving coping skills, and providing a sense of community and belonging. The duration of my groups last anywhere from eight to twelve weeks so that everyone feels safe and has enough time to work.

These meetings are not therapy sessions but rather support groups. We suggest seeing a professional psychotherapist for anyone struggling with mental health issues.

Marty and the other participants came to my aid when I was in trouble. They assist me in discovering the greatest elements of myself and discovering my voice. When I don't have much to work on, I need to know that I can depend on others.

Rosie N., NC

This is the first time I've ever been in a support group, and I've never thought I needed it so much. I feel like life is worth living when I'm with this group. I'm so glad I found this group. Much love!

Robin N., CO

The group, led by Marty, came to my aid right when I needed them. They assist me in discovering the aspects of myself that are the most positive and help me find my voice. There are times when I don't have much to work on, but it's important for me to know that I can lean on the support of others.

Fran J., PA

Marty is an excellent group facilitator. Though we have somewhat varied backgrounds, the group is incredibly sympathetic to my position. I value the assistance he has provided for us.

Morgan K., WA

I've never felt the need to join a support group before, yet here I am. When I'm around these people, I remember why it's important to keep going. This group's existence is a blessing.

Background:

The Doulagiver(End of Life Doula) is the non-medical professional that is the eyes and ears of the case with no time limitations, unlike the hospice nurse who has limited time at the bedside. The Doulagiver alerts the hospice team to any changes in the patient's presentation so that the hospice nurse can assess and update the care plan for maximum daily comfort of the patient.(the goal of hospice.) Doulagivers provide the adjunct support that patients and families so desperately need at this stressful time.

A Doulagiver has a "scope of practice" that includes everything from the time of terminal diagnosis, to helping patients and families as the illness progresses, to the vigil, time of death, after death care, and understanding and honoring grief, and finally recovery of life after loss.

All "companion" services are private pay as they are not covered by medical insurance. The fees charged are individually determined on a case by case basis.
