Marriage and Family Life Coach

Hi, I'm Vikki, but my middle name could be “resilience” or “never gives up” because of my life experience and ability to rebound. I am definitely a survivor. Life has not always been easy, I have needed support in many areas of my life at different times. I am not here as a therapist, even though I have a Masters in Marriage and Family therapy, but as a fellow traveler that wants to support others on the road to healing and recovery. I got that Masters degree after I was 55. I have heard many people say they couldn't do that, but I did it, and learned a lot about myself in the process. I am still learning!

Things happen in our life that we don't expect and it forces us to change or stay stuck in ways that can keep us from moving forward and finding some joy in our life. It is so important to know that you are not alone.

Description:

The 55 and older adult recovery group helps people process their story, experiences, and feelings, in a safe, supportive atmosphere. No, you can’t recover from being 55 or older, but you can share your experiences, emotions, and coping skills with others who have endured similar situations. The duration of my groups ranges from eight to twelve weeks in order to provide a safe environment and ample room for work. We will follow a somewhat structured format that includes open-ended discussions.

Vikki has been wonderful to work with to help me with my anxiety, depression and stress management. I like her approach and find the other members easy to connect with. I am so grateful for all the connections I made with the members.

Background: In my own life and with families I have worked with, I know that life transitions come in many forms; empty nest, a spouse with dementia, death of a loved one, divorce, lost relationships, retirement, downsizing and moving to smaller home, the death of a pet, caretaking, or the loss of a job or a new job. The older we get, the more of these things we have experienced. I am sure there are many transitions that I haven't mentioned or even thought of. It's part of life. Any change can create loss and cause a person to grieve and wonder what the next step is. What I have learned is that when I share these changes or transitions with others I am more able to move forward with my life. It may look different, but I can learn to suffer less. One of the most important things I am learning is accepting life on life's terms whatever the cause of my distress and even more important, I can't carry it alone. I believe we are creatures that need connection. Join me and help others by sharing your experience as we learn some new tools that will support us in sharing our stories and understanding ourselves better so we can move forward. Join me in while we support each other in a group that has survived 55 years and more.
